At 11:00 o’clock on a hot Saturday, we got in the car and headed to the cool flowing air of Huntington Beach. We had a media event to attend that evening, which sent us in that direction. With about 6 hours til the event we knew we are going to spend some needed rest and relaxation at the beach but first we needed breakfast. When we visit an area that we are not too familiar with, YELP is our friend in helping us find a good place to eat. We came across, Caffe Caldo. Located in a shopping center right off Beach Blvd, Caffe Caldo was a treat. two things had caught our eye, Salmon Bagel for Jeff and french toast for me. Both exceeded out expectations. When we walked in the Italian espresso makers caught our eye and we had a feeling the coffee was going to be good too. Our waitress Ali was delightful and informative. Richard, the owner was kind to tell us how Caffe Caldo got started and future plans to make the decor look more “Steam Punk Italian”.
Next Stop, the beach.
Around 5:30, we sought out a local Happy Hour and we found a good one at 25 Degrees. Offering Happy Hour everyday til 7:00pm. We ordered up some $5 Margaritas and ordered Bacon wrapped dates. They were some of the best we have every had.
At 7:00 PM we made over to our media event. Located in a parking lot of a local cafe sat a red double decker bus with “Monarch Social” banner across it. Great location, over looking the ocean. with lights strung up and a Reggae Band playing, the atmosphere was set.
Matt Harrison, Co-owners and bus driver told us how this big refurbished iconic English bus, turned into a mobile event venue. The bottom is outfitted with a full kitchen and a wood fired oven. The top floor will be turned into a dining room/lounge. His lovely wife Sarah is the culinary creator, making handmade flat breads, soups and desserts. They can now pull up at a birthday, cocktail party, wedding and start the party. Thanks Matt and Sarah for a fun evening.
