Dublin, Outline
This was our first trip to Ireland, a place we had always dreamt of going to. It did not disappoint. We arrived in Dublin in September 2016, spending four days there at a suburban Airbnb. We stayed in a room let out by Ethel and Dave in the Rathgar neighborhood. While we didn’t get the opportunity to meet Dave in person, he provided us with valuable information about Dublin and places to visit in Ireland. His lovely wife Ethel was our host. Preparing us a tasty breakfast each morning and lively conversation.
In Dublin, we took a tour of Trinity College which was founded in 1592 and is known as one of the seven ancient universities in of Britain and Ireland. The ancient Book of Kells is also found here. This illuminated manuscript was believed to created around the year 800 and holds the four gospels of the bible.
We took the Yellow Hop-On Hop- Off bus tour of Dublin, stopping at Teelings Distillery (the first of many distilleries we visited on this trip). Located in the area known at the “Liberties.” Teeling’s has started the resurgence of distilleries coming back to the area. Listen to our Savory Road Radio feature on Teelings Distillery
Jeff and I attended a entertaining evening of Irish story telling and music at the oldest bar in Dublin “The Brazen Head.” The event called “An Evening of Food, Folklore & Fairies started off with old Irish tales, delicious food and topped off with delightful music sung by our host. Ending the night, enjoying the ambiance of the 800 year old bup.
