Our day job takes us out and about all over Southern California. Recently we were in the older part of Glendale and ran across Brand Park. Which is not only a community park but was once the home of Leslie C. Brand. Built in 1904 Mr. Brand caled his estate El Miradero, meaning a high place overlooking a wide view.” The home was inspired by Mr. Brand’s recent trip to the 1893 Columbian World Exposition in Chicago and the East Indian Pavilion.
In 1925 Mr. Brand dies leaving the estate to the City of Glendale upon his wife’s death. To be used as a library. Now, with modern add-ons the buildings encompasses an art gallery, recital hall, sculpture court and Brand Park Studios. Within the extensive property there is a Japanese Tea House and and Victorian Doctors home.

We haven’t been to IHOP in years but due to a need for new tires we looked for the closest breakfast restaurant. IHOP in Granada Hills was within visual site. This was no ordinary IHOP, this IHOP had youthful holiday memories attached to it for me (Donna). When myself, my twin sister Lori, and my twin brothers Danny and David were in Sunday school, each Christmas season the children’s choir would gather on a three tear risers and sang Christmas carols for the shopping public. Then on Christmas eve, while waiting for the much anticipated midnight church service, my parents took us to IHOP for dinner. All these sweet memories greeted me as we sat down for breakfast. They still had the multiple flavors of syrups and large gold craft of hot coffee waiting for us on the table. The only thing that changed was the huge 8 page menu, plus the two additional special menus. It took us fifteen minutes to go through it all and decide. Jeff eventually, decided on the Pineapple Upside Down Pancakes with eggs, sausage and hash browns from the “Paradise” summer menu http://www.brandeating.com/2016/06/ihop-debuts-new-paradise-pancake-menu-for-2016-summer.htmland I decided on the Swedish Pancakes with scrambled, eggs and sausage. Each bite took me back to my childhood. I’m not totally sure the eggs are the real deal but delicious they were. The sausage was exactly the kind I loved, also the same I remember and every sausage I have had since, needed to measure up too. We were like two little kids, gobbling up our breakfast but with a caffeine fix that needed to be satisfied. IHOP we will be back.
Recently we went to two delicious eateries. The first was Tutti Mangia in Claremont. A fine dining Italian restaurant in old town. We were celebrating a our dear friend Marit’s birthday. Everything was delicious but the best part of the meal was the Lavender Infused Panna Cotta.
Along the foothill communities in the San Gabriel Valley sits Monrovia. We visited a new eatery in town called 38 Degrees Ale House and Grill. We treated ourselves to a poutine with hand cut fries, bacon-duck gravy, burrata cheese, green onions and an egg. For dessert, I just had to order their bourbon-orange zest old fashion pudding, garnished with Luxardo cherries and candied kumquats. Every bite of each dish was a treat for our taste buds.
The Luggage Room in Pasadena is a terrific find. Right off the metro, The Luggage Room serves up handmade pizzas. We ordered the sausage pizza with house made sausage. A gorgeous chopped salad finished off our meal and we can’t wait to go back.
